How can I tell what kind of bird is making a nest in our bird house?

There were two this morning. One was sitting on top (more or less supervising) It had some blue on its head and a prominent white belly. Another was in and out of the house and was darker in color with no really special markings.
The bird house is suppose to be for blue birds but last year something else took up home there also.
We live in upstate NY
I think you are right it looks like a tree swallow

Help!!! my new dog is a bird killer…?

Posted by Filed Under Bird House Feeder with 5 Comments

I have 2 of the most beautiful Pomeranians ever – they both have very loving, sweet dispositions about them. So recently my husband and I decided to adopt a third one. We wanted to give an unwanted pet a good, loving home. So we adpoted a another Pomeranian, Valentino. He is so sweet, loving and gets along with the other 2 just great. We couldn’t ask for a better dog other than a few bathroom issues he has fit in fine but there is a problem, one I don’t know how to break – I love birds, all kinds so my husband has put bird feeders along with bird houses in our back yard – our new addition is a bird killer. He has killed 5 of my baby birds in the last month and I don’t know how to break him of it – we have never had this problem with our other 2 so it really has us stumped – we have a really nice fenced in back yard w/a pet door so the dogs may come and go as they please – getting rid of him is not an option – any suggestions would be appreciated?
