Bird House buildings supplies.?

Posted by Filed Under Bird House Feeder with 1 Comment

I am wanting to build a bird house that replicates a family members house, but I am having trouble finding supplies for the outside of it. I would like the shutters, chimney, siding, etc. The bird house will be kept outside. Any ideas on websites or catalogs would be greatly appreciated.

Where can I buy a 'Bird House' for my –> Weather Sensor?

Posted by Filed Under Bird House Feeder with 2 Comments

I have this Weather Gage which I got for Christmas. It’s sitting here on my desk. It came with a Remote Wireless Sensor that reads my Outside Temperatures.

But, I need to buy a SUN-Proof Bird House to keep 100% of the Sun’s Rays from hitting my Weather Sensor…..or I will get False daytime temperature readings.

So where do I buy a Bird House?

Painting my room? I need help. details inside =]

Ok i’m the kinda girl that likes bright colors. I picked the color for my room to be a really light tan. And I only did it because I wanted to put a bunch of brightly colored things in my room for decoration. If I put a thick stripe of bright blue and the bottom, will it matter if i put a bright yellow pencil holder or something like that in my room? I really want to do wacky things in my room, like hang a bird house i painted in it and have a bunch of really bright colors. So my question is if i put that bright blue line at the bottom will i still be able to decorate with all the other colors? without it looking horrid?

i have some questions about pet pigeons?

Posted by Filed Under Bird House Feeder with 2 Comments

hi i was thinking about getting 2 pigeons but i have a lot of questions.
I have a flock of chickens and i was wondering if i could add pigeons to the coop. The pigeons would live in the top of the coop that is right now used 4 storage but if i put bedding and a feeder in waterer in it could i house pigeons in it. the storage area is a 4 ft by 4 ft room that is accessed by a latter, the hens live under it and they aren’t able to get inside the area. iv heard that chickens give pigeons diseases but if they aren’t interacting just in the same coop would they still be able to get diseases form each other?
also could a pair of pet pigeons live together in a regular bird house of or is that to exposed to predators?
with is better a male n female or 2 females (males fight right)?
is it better to buy adults or eggs?
most of the adult pigeons ive seen cost like each because they are from breeders but is it possible to get them cheaper?
Were do you get hatching pigeon eggs, ive looked on eggbid and ebay and other websites but haven’t found any. Is it ok to let the pigeons out for the whole day to fly around and then lock them up at night?
can i feed pigeons chicken food or is this unhealthy
i know nothing about pigeons so dont worry im gonna do i lot more research before i get them
thanx

How can I keep field mice from nesting in my blue bire boxes?

Posted by Filed Under Bird House Feeder with 6 Comments

I have six blue bird boxes at my home in Connecticut. Each winter the boxes are taken over by a families of field mice that I clean out each spring. When I clean them they are pretty disgusting and smell like urine. Since the mice have started adopting the bird houses for their winter homes, I have had very few blue birds or other birds choosing to use the boxes. Does the use by the mice keep the birds away? Any suggestion on how to keep the mice out? Should I prop the boxes open for the winter so they are less attractive to the mice? Thanks

where and what kind of bird feeders to put in my back yard?

Posted by Filed Under Bird House Feeder with 4 Comments

I live in the south eastern area and was wondering where to put my bird feeders. There is a lot of construction going on around my house (front and back). Right now I have two tube feeders (storebought) and one platform made out of a frisbee. The tube feeders are under a tree in nice cover and another one is under a tree with little cover so I can see them (this is the tree where most of the birds nest). The platform feeder is on my deck near the tree that the birds nest in. Are these good spots, should I change any? I’ve had them up only for about two days but have seen no birds. Should I give it more time or is the construction freaking them out. How can I get the birds to notice it? Also, what is a good time to find a bird on the feeders?
