April 30, 2010 Bird House Feeder

last summer I found this nest infront of my window.I watch this from day one and it is very exciting to see how they grew up. They are always hungry. Finally there was only 3 left. Do not know what happens to the other 2.

  6. krazykitty789 says:

do you have any cats or dogs? maybe they opened the window and took a bird……..but then the mom would smell the scent……….or maybe they fell out………did u touch them? that probaly what happened but im exactly sure………tats so sad though poor little birdies…

  7. lihiong says:

Once the mother bird saw me watching. I did not go too close, still it is sad.

Baby robins have high mortality rate of 75%. This could explain why these birds would lay 4 or more eggs.

  10. AdmiralCecil says:

Robins will mate many more times depending on what happens to their current eggs and outside situations.

  11. Dusty696969 says:

Normally all the eggs don’t hatch and the nest gets two crowded so the mother will throw the smallest one or two out of the nest. I have seen this happen in both robin nest and cardinal nest. I even seen a cardinal mom throw all 4 of her baby’s on the ground and leave.

  12. lihiong says:

I`m sure you are right. This is the only explaination. Nature is cruel sometimes.

  13. angelpadgett456 says:

Usually when the nest is to crowded the Mother will throw the 2 smalles babies out of the nest…i used to have a robin nest in my yard and i watched sadly as the mother threw both of her babies on the ground and flew away…sometimes they’ll do that.Nature IS cruel someting, ur rite about that.

i remembered watching about these baby bird in animal documentary… these babies bird are always competing each other and sometime the weakest one would be kicked out of the nest by the stronger baby…

  21. lihiong says:

I think that`s what happen. It stared with 5 eggs and ends up with 3 birds…
It is like human beings..the strong one wins :-(

I do not like to idealize nature because it is so cruel and sometimes we just want to see the poetic side that also has it.
