a bird keeps hitting my back window and sitting a staring at me pooping on my car and making marks on car wind?

July 11, 2010 Bird House Feeder

yesterday there was bird droppings on front car doors from bottom of window down…bird starts hitting window in house…after washing car and waking this morning bird had pooped again in same areas and also made feather markings and lines in dew on windsheild and also left lines on side mirrors and windows..before pulling out of driveway the bird landed on side mirror driver side and just looked at me and now as i sit at home it will hit window of house fly away and come back and do it more repeating the same…if i stand in window it will sit on chair and look my way and then fly away
Going on five days now this bird is hanging around doing the same things everyday…..it never stays away. Many friends believe the bird is my ex husband who passed away in violent break in this past december….could this be the case?

In short the bird has gone whacko and is acting whacko. Not all that unusual

It is spring and the bird is going mad with hormones related to territory and nesting. It sees its’ reflection in the windows and mirrors and thinks it is a rival. Your presence confuses the bird. It sees through the reflection.

Unfortunately, there is not much you can do short of covering the mirrors and windows. You can put out a mirror to distract the bird and just let it go crazy and do what ever it will. This might keep it away from the car and windows.

put up stickers of a preditor bird like an owl or a hawk, or put red paper on the window it might make it stop.

I had a cardinal doing the same thing to our bathroom window. We tried everything from putting fake cardinals in the window to pictures of owls or hawks. Unfortunately, I’m not sure our fix will help you. The bird sees its reflection, and is getting territorial, because he thinks it’s another bird. We put paper in the window, which stopped the reflection, and he stopped immediately. There are types of adhesive plastic you can put in your window that will stop the reflectiveness of the glass, so you might try that.

This is pretty common in the springtime when birds become territorial. Take a look at this website..lots of tips on how to get this to stop..it really works for any bird species:

As far as your car mirrors..you should cover them with a handtowel and rubberband.
