Homemade Bird Feeder. The feed gate was raised 1/2″, which as it turns out is enough to trap an American Goldfinch. One more reason to keep this feeder filled with food

Homemade bird feeder. When the food is out, the gap is too large on the side wall, and the bird is able to climb under trying to get the last bit of food.
This happens alot with these types of feeders actually. They usually find their way out fortunately.
