giant hummingbird feeder

August 14, 2010 Bird House Feeder

a converted 7 gallon chicken waterer. 7 gallons last 6 days during the peak nesting season (mid-July to 7 August). This is a little dark because the camera homed in on the white jug but you get the idea of using these jugs instead of those expensive, fragile and hard to clean commercial hummingbird feeders. Search for my other videos under dzerres to see all the action better when the jug is removed.

thanks, that’s a 7 gallon chicken waterer – it last exactly 6 days! I buy 50 lb sacks of sugar at COSTCO.

Wow, thats a LOT of humming birds! 6 days is even shorter time then my 1 quart feeder lasts.
Great idea. Do you have problems with ants or bees etc.?

How do you keep the bees out of the juice??

    good question.

maybe just need to build some type of very fine chicken wire bee guard that has very small holes that bees cant get through.

    chickens are birds too!
