Type build a birdhouse or birhouse plans in Google, there are thousands of sites with free plans. Lots of ideas also to make birdhouses with things you have around the house: milk cartons, coffee cans, etc. You will need to know what bird you are trying to attract because different birds need different requirements as to house size and hole size, also placement in your yard.

Also type in National Audubon Society in search. Lots of info about birds.
At your local library you will find many books on how to build all sorts of birdhouses. The type of house you want depends on the species of birds you want to attract to your yard.
