Hummingbirds?

July 9, 2010 Bird House Feeder

I live in Indiana and in the summer ( or maybe spring) , some hummingbirds come to the feeder. I read an article in this magazine called " Birds & Blooms) and it said about these hummingbirds building nests in strange places, like ropes and windchimes. In the summer or spring , if I place a tiny little bird house ( because they check out anything my mom puts out there) will they lay eggs in it if they are interested in the birdhouse? Or it is not their egg-laying season yet in the summer, in Indiana?

    Hummingbirds are not cavity nesters..so no, they will not use a bird house. You can attract them to your yard by putting up a hummingbird feeder, and if you have colorful flowers blooming in your garden. If there is a food source nearby, they may nest somewhere in your yard. They will not began to breed/nest until around March when they return from their winter migration. Here is more info on the species you get in Indiana:
