Thistle will attract lots of finches, which are small and gorgeous to watch, and then your basic 'bird seed' will attract finches, robins, cardinals, jays, squirrels, etc. Make sure you get a sturdy feeder with sturdy perches....a decent little feeder will run about $10 or so. We usually put out feeders for hummingbirds. I would recommend putting the feeder somewhere, where bird poop wouldn't be a problem. Along with the good, comes the bad.
