I'd like to befriend a fairy?

September 30, 2010 Bird House Feeder

I can’t do much about a garden, since I still live with my parents, and I’m only 13. But so I’ve read in a lot about fairies. I know they like to be called wee folk or good folk, since fairies are an offensive name to them. And that they like little bird baths with pretty rocks.
So this is what I’ve done so far outside my house, I’ve left a tulip out for them to use for their baby’s bed, and wrote a note, Enjoy! Love, (my name)
Then I got out my mom’s old angel, bird bath, pond thing and filled it with fresh, clean water and set pretty rocks in some places. Then the stone angel is holding a leaf, so instead of filling it with water I filled it with flower petals, bright flowers, and pretty leaves. I’m going to go to the store and buy a bird house and paint it pretty colors and decorate it and put little doll furniture inside. I’m also going to the small forest in a golf course and bring some honey and milk for them to nurish on.

Is there anything else I can do to attract the wee folk? And befriend them? Thanks!
AND NO SAYING, "fairies aren’t real dude blah blah blah" because that’s a crappy answer, you’re just saying it because YOU don’t believe and you think I’m stupid for believing so you’re trying tot change my mind but it won’t work so don’t even say it, you’ll just be wasting your time.

THANKS SO MUCH!!

Peace, Love, Kindness <3

well on beltaine, it is said fairies are more active then. Beltaine is on may 1st. leave out gifts for the fairies like cookies, flowers, pictures, anything. they will surely reward you some how by making your garden grow or leaving butterflies or anything. hope i have helped you.

They like sweet things to giving them offerings is a good idea. If you want to you can chuck the offering away after a few hours, but do not eat the offering. Cakes, milk, honey, sugar etc. Maybe also incense. There are some good videos on youtube:

They like candy, honey, milk, sweet things, fresh spring water. And I make little furniture for them. I also make tiny clothes for them. Just keep doing what you are doing. And to seeing wee folk is even harder. You have to have a special gift to see them. And im sure if you can get the right books and learn more about them you can see them.

What in the world makes you think that the word ‘fairy’ offends them? :O

Ok.. ready for lots of tips? :P

I wouldn’t buy a bird house. They’re not birds, and some of the fairies actually may be alot bigger than you think (trust me..)! You wouldn’t want to offend them in that way, would you? Fairies find their own shelter :) They have their own beloved homes!

The sweet things that other people have suggested is a very good idea. The honey and milk idea is lovely, too. How about some sweet berries or small sugared fruits to go with it?

Even though I disagree with the bird house idea, I think furniture is a good idea. You can either set it in an overgrown/sheltered part of your yard (more on that in a later paragraph) or even in the small forest, in a private place. NOT doll house furniture.. too small (for some), too tacky and most of all.. too impersonal. Definitely don’t go for plastic furniture!
Why don’t you see if you can find any fallen wood, and make your own furniture (and paint it/decorate it?). Make sure to make the furniture a general size, or a few sizes (cannot stress enough how some fairies may be bigger than you imagine). If you find that you cannot make the furniture (no strong glue, for instance) then of course feel free to buy.. but I would still suggest against ‘dainty doll house’ furniture. See if you can find anything more ‘robust’ and ‘naturey’ looking. Maybe look more for wooden ornaments, from a garden store, that you can decorate.

One important thing… is your garden tidy and neat, or is it abit overgrown? Fairies prefer places that are full of nature and overgrown. If your garden/yard is neat and tidy, don’t feel offended yourself if you find that fairies wont visit. HOWEVER, ask your mother if you can have a tiny corner of the yard, and plant a small (ready grown) tree there, and some flowers and plants. That may draw them! If your mother wont let you use the ground, try getting a BIGGGG plant tub instead, and using that to plant some nice growth.

Hmm.. what else.. when my mother and I were trying to befriend the fairies, we painted pictures for them and hung them on the tree we thought they lived in. We painted the pictures on wooden plaques, so it was environmentally friendly. Just pretty pictures for them of butterflies, or flowers, or even portraits of some of the fairies themselves! (Dont worry about not knowing what they individually look like, Im sure they wont mind because it would be a nice gift from you still). If you cannot find any way to ‘hang’ the little pictures you make, just propping them up somewhere near a tree with your other gifts to them will work too!

Please make sure everything is environmentally friendly – no plastic or metals. The fairies love their natural homes, and therefore I don’t think they like all the unnatural, damaging things humans make :( If you leave any plates out, please make sure to bring them back so they don’t litter their home in the little forest.

Carry on with collecting pretty leaves for them. Make sure you wear gloves, too, and see if you can find any fallen flowers for them (do NOT pick live flowers! Just save the flowers or blossoms that have already fallen..)

One last thing: DON’T be disheartened if you don’t seem to ‘see’ the fairies. Even when they’re friendly with you, they’re mischevious and shy.. they probably wont appear. But you’ll know when you’re friends, trust me.. and yes, you WILL *eventually* see one, just maybe not as soon as you hope. Don’t give up, okay?

Okay, to sum up so you can remember:
-Keep in mind that some fairies are alot bigger than you imagine! Don’t forget these little people, you don’t want to leave them out.
-KEEP EVERYTHING ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY! Sorry for the caps, but that’s VERY important to the fairies and to the Earth.
-Make sure you don’t litter anywhere with anything that wont naturally ‘rot’ into the soil.
    -Sweet, natural treats!
-Wooden plaques/pictures made by you for them (with any paint you want, as long as its BRIGHT.)
-TALK to them, even if you can’t see them. Talk to them in a whisper when you’re setting the gifts down. They’ll be watching you and wondering if they can trust you.
-Do some reading on general woodland folk so you understand more about their ‘world’. (My Dad saw a gnome once.. well, twice!)
-Keep at it, and keep active. Prove to the fairies you want to make friends, and look after their little world and home the best you can.
    - Don’t freak out and scream when one eventually comes into your bedroom window if you leave it open… lol.. seriously, trust me.. haha (they wont mind if you do at all, but just don’t let it scare you ;) )

Feel free to e-mail me through Yahoo Answers if you want to know anything else!

    GOOD LUCK! <3~~}i{~~<3
(and if anyone tells you that fairies don’t exist, just nod along with it and smile. Don’t argue with them, some people just wont be convinced and they don’t need to be. Just carry on with what you’re doing and ignore the people that don’t believe.)
