Before I moved to my present seaside home I lived on an isolated property in a forest area. This forest was teeming with birds and animals and we never fed them so they did not recognise human food as something to eat , but several times a week a bird would hit one of the large windows and usually get up and fly off but sometimes die. From outside these windows showed a reflection of the surrounding forest and obviously the birds just thought they were flying toward more forest and were not trying to enter the house.

actually, when you clean your windows
too much you cant see if there are
windows placed on the side of the door.
Birds, on the other hand, have sensitive
eyes and take everything they see invisible.
so if you see a bird siting on a branch on your
tree, then the bird wants to rush inside and eat
food and when you actually didn’t open the windows
the bird must think you did open the window and fly
really fast and BUM! The bird hits him/herself and
    dies.

It is actually the reflection of the outside world that the bird sees in certain light that can lead to them crashing into the glass and not an attempt by them to enter the room. But yes a clean window reflects better even if it is just clean from rain.
