Is this cage big enough for my 4 rats (2 hairless and 2 rex)??
July 9, 2010 Bird House Feeder
I took out the wheel, because they get enough time out of their cage playing on my bed and with me each day. and they have one house to hide in, and a "cozy cup" thing, 3 hanging wooden bird toys, and 4 chew toys.
Is it big enough??

They are out of their cage, and with me, for at least 20 minutes each day, usually more. and they have tubes and tents, and crinkle tunnels when they play outside of their cage. And i use my hand and play "tag" with them, and wrestle with them.
They are definitly loved, i just wanna make sure their cage is big enough!!

Hummingbirds are fun, entertaining, full of energy and it’s easy to attract hummingbirds.

This cage can comfortably house two rats-
cage calculator-

As a general rule, buy the largest cage you can afford-
Female rats though smaller require more space than male, because they are playful and curious, whereas males are more into cuddling and sleeping.
Generally cages made for rats are too small, you might want to consider looking at ferret cages which would provide a nice space for your four rats, and room for plenty of toys!
Ensure that the cage bottom is solid, and not wire, to avoid foot problems!
Make sure your rats have an igloo- (a cardboard box with a hole in it works fine- or an ice cream pail flipped upside down, with a door way cut into it will suffice)
Your rats require at least an hour of time out of their cages and with you- or twenty minutes several times a day-
Here are some cages that would suit four rats-

I just bought a nine level ferret cage second hand- try posting on online classified sites that you are looking to buy a ferret cage in good condition- you’ll save a bundle and get a larger cage!
You didn’t mention the actual size of the cage.
If they seem happy, and it sounds like you take them out to play with them a lot, I wouldn’t worry too much.
When they’re not playing, they’ll just cuddle up to each other and go to sleep!
I had a pet rat for almost 2 years over twenty years ago. He was great!
Maube for a couple of rats but not 4. I love the cage though. Maybe get 2 and conect them somehow. If you do that they usually wind up spending all their time in one. Or just get them a big cage like a aqarium, you can always get attachments that have wheels and stuff to put on the top
That is a good cage for 2 rats but I suggest you get a bigger one. I love to play with my hamster too!!! It is soo much fun but my hamster may die soon because it has a disease.
I used a Cage Calculator and it said there is room for 2 rats.
I love the cage, but it needs to be bigger.
You post about two to three times a week, and all questions are about your pets. Maybe you should get a book.
NO, NO, and NO!!!! They need about two times that space, floor-wise, as well as levels-wise. Look, you interact with these critters for some ungodly reason, and do so a lot. This encourages them to become inquisitive, active, playful, etc., not? How would you feel crammed into a double bed-sized room with three other people for all but maybe 30-40 minutes of the good days? One you weren’t able to leave at all? You might try using wire cloth of smallish hole size, like 1/2" squares, and make one large enough to hold them all, with levels that vary, hanging toys to bump into or some other playthings they’ll use, etc.. You could make the bottom removable for easier cleaning, and it’s an easy enough build. Tacks and a small hammer, or a staple gun, srewdriver, snips to cut wire mesh to size, and a circular saw(if young get a parent to help), along with some wood and plywood panels, and a few hours’ time, and they’ve got enough room, and you can be proud that you gave it to them, yourself.
Absaloutly not, that is way way to small for 4 rats cause it is way to small I would proberly get and aquarium put a lid on it with some drilled holes.
I would say no. Rats love to have room to run around. And four rats is especially a lot of rats for that space, especially if they’re female, which I don’t know. I have three girls and I made them a 6x4x2 foot cage and they love it. I would suggest looking online for some really big cages, maybe even a ferret cage – those tend to be very large and are usually suitable for rats. Martin’s Cages has a great selection of really big cages. Or you could custom build your own.
