Mockingbird “Daylight Robbery” – Can’t fit thru hole

November 8, 2010 Bird House Feeder

A mockingbird was trying to steal all the worms from our bluebirds’ feeder. In the end he still fails though.. We put the worms in a feeder that only bluebirds can get into. To see if it really works, and only bluebirds can get in, I pointed a webcam at it and ran “motion” (a linux program). You fill in the rest! (If it seems choppy and has boxes – that’s not just you. Netbooks can only encode HD so fast and 30 fps isn’t it..)

Are the sides glass or something so he can’t get in through the sides? It’s so funny to watch. Though I wonder how the bluebirds can get to the worms…

@Kaslyria Yep, they’re plastic. The holes in the sides are exactly the right size for the bluebirds to squeeze through (and they don’t seem to mind the tight fit!) Hopefully I’ll get a video of a bluebird in there soon, we’ll see…
