Bird House Feeder

I used to have the Squirrel Buster Mini (can be seen at http://www.amazon.com/Brome-1055-Squirrel-Buster-Mini/dp/B001FK81PU/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1316525048&sr=8-1). But I changed to a new feeder (link below). Birds still use it, but nowhere near as much as my old feeder. I traded in my Squirrel Buster Mini for this new feeder. Is it that birds prefer to face forward when eating? I was thinking of attaching tubing horizontally by the feeding ports so they can do that. Any input on what I can do or what may be going on would be great. I get house finches, chickadees, and american gold finches.

-I use the same mix, but may change to pure sunflower hearts to entice them more
-Maybe it does take some time for it to get around word of beak that this feeder is available
-if things don’t work out, I’m tempted to go back to the old feeder ….but this one is so nice looking though!

In building a birdhouse is it okay for the inside of the birdhouse to be larger than the specs? But the diameter of the hole is still the same as recommended. The hole above the floor is also the correct measurement above the floor. The height above the ground is also recommended.

Example: The Measurements call for: Bluebird: The housefloor is 5"x5" & The house depth is 8".

The inside of our birdhouse the measurement is 13" wide x 10" deep.

I bought a bird feeder. I hung it on my back porch and filled it with seed. What a beauty of a bird feeder it is, as I filled it lovingly with seed. Within a week we had hundreds of birds taking advantage of the continuous flow of free & easily accessible food.
But then the birds started building nests in the boards of the patio, above the table, & next to the barbecue.
Then came the poop. It was everywhere: on the patio tile,
the chairs, the table …everywhere!
Then some of the birds turned mean. They would dive bomb me and try to
peck me even though I had fed them out of my own pocket.
& others birds were boisterous and loud. They sat on the feeder & squawked & screamed at all hours of the day and night & demanded that I fill it
when it got low on food.
After a while, I couldn’t even sit on my own back porch anymore. So I took down the bird feeder and in three days the birds were gone. I cleaned up their mess & took down the many nests they had built all over the patio.
Soon, the back yard was like it used to be … quiet, serene & no one demanding their rights to a free meal.
Now let’s see .
Our government gives out free food, subsidized housing, free medical care, and free education & allows anyone born here to be an automatic citizen.
Then the illegals came by the tens of thousands. Suddenly our taxes went up to pay for free services; small apartments are housing 5 families; you have to wait 6 hours to be seen by an emergency room doctor; your child’s 2nd grade class is behind other schools because over half the class doesn’t speak
English.
Corn Flakes now come in a bilingual box; I have to ‘press one’ to hear my bank
talk to me in English, & people waving flags other than ‘ Old Glory ‘ are squawking & screaming in the streets, demanding more rights and free liberties.
Just my opinion, but maybe it’s time for the government to take do wn the bird feeder. If you agree, pass it on; if not, continue cleaning up the poop! & go to congress.org & let them know about it!

p v, we don’t mind color…It’s the free ride which illegals are here on. I work hard & pay a lot of money each year in taxes & take care of illegal thieves who use our resources, which are limited(gas, water & jobs) & don’t pay any taxes….How is this fair? Go home!!!!!!
I shouldn’t have to press 1 for english, this is my home. You should take the time to learn english if you’re going to be here. At least show some respect in a home that you’re not welcome in!!

I’ve got experience laying tile, constructing furniture and sanding&finishing wood.

How about a small shed? Like, an 8x8x8 shed on a concrete foundation? I’m sure I could do it, but is there a better beginner structure or something I can build? I don’t want to start with a birdhouse I know I can do that, unless you insist.

Maybe steps I could take up to a house, like starting smaller and simpler, and moving up to bigger and more complicated things?

Just to reiterate, I want to get hands-on experience that will prepare and test me on the skills to building my own house in the future.

A cat bird has been coming to our house the last few days knocking on all the windows, he goes to all of them sits on the window cill and knocks, n then he tryies to fly in the house, I dont think this is normal, is he looking for somthing? please give intelegent answers.

They are starting to make holes around my house.It sounds like someone is knocking on my walls. They obviously can’t get through the brick but they like to do it on the wood. I could kill them if I wanted to but I don’t want to kill them. How can I scare them away so that they don’t come back?

there are no nests near my house but the red bird will not seem to leave. he sits on the porch all day & even follows us around in the yard. it just seems so weird! does this mean anything??

Some sort of wild bird is building a nest in the small space between the front porch light and the house. I am totally cool with birds & it’s a nice sheltered spot, but I am concerned as this porch light is on from dark til we go to bed and I wonder if this may pose a fire hazard when the nest gets bigger or be too hot for the birds once it gets warmer? It is the front door that is used a lot, so the birds would often be disturbed and the front door will be left open once it warms up more & I replace the storm door w/ the screen door. I don’t know what kind or bird it is, but judging from the size of the material used in the nest, it must be fairly big. I am fine w/ hosting a bird family, but wonder if it may actually not be a good place for them to nest & I should remove the nest as it is not that far along yet? I obviously do not want to disturb it once they have eggs. I live in a more rural area where there are plenty of places to nest. What would be better for the sake of the birds?

My buddy’s getting married. He loves duct tape, whiskey, & someone’s homemade parsley brandy. We often draw on his face when he passes out at parties. I’m thinking about getting him something that tastes funny, I claim is liquor, & he’ll drink a lot of; or T-shirts about how he’s "tagged";but I’d like to make something that looks nice, is useless, & frustrates them like a puzzle box or fully furnished see-through bird houses. Any ideas? Or plans for a puzzle box that’s very difficult to open?

I live in central Louisiana, this is the first time in 25 years I have ever heard this bird. I have a small amount of woods and a shallow canal behind my home and for about two weeks I heard this bird but could never get a look at it. Mostly in the evenings. I recently visited my Mother in north eastern Kentucky. We both heard the same bird there but it stayed in the deep in the woods so we both could not see it. The only thing I have to go buy is this recording I made using my digital camera. It is pointed toward the woods behind my house. Please listen to the bird sound , it pauses and then make another sound. If you recognize it please feel free to post your answer and I’ll do some research to confirm it. I will post my findings.
