Elmer, Elvira, Eggbert and Ellie the bluebirds were getting ready to fledge any minute. They were fascinated with the bugs that flew by. Watch their last confined moments – they left the nest the very next morning!

Will the mother bird come back?

Theres this nest inside a bird house that i built. I used to see the mother bird every day but now i never see her. There a 3 baby bluebirds in the nest and when i look in the nest, they all open their mouths like they are going to be fed.

P.S. I haven’t touched the nest or the bird house.

More fun at the mealworm feeder! Marissa is in the middle of laying her second brood of eggs so she is more focused on eating vs feeding brood 1. Barney is the prime feeder now although the chicks are feeding and hunting on their own to a large extent.

Wendy has set up a couple bird feeders in the backyard. We get a wide variety of finches, nuthatch, cardinals, bluebirds, titmouse, and wrens all the time. This particular day we were graced by the presence of a wooly woodpecker. They don’t usually come out of the forest. A short time after this was taken a Red Shouldered Hawk came flying out of the woods. Luckily he didn’t fly off with any of our other feathered friends.

The father bluebird comes to get worms to feed to the 3 babies. A wren tries to squeeze into the action, but a juvenile bluebird rushes to the feeder, followed by the father again. The dad just can’t act fast enough for this kid who’s screaming to be fed! As if, “ALRIGHT THEN! HERE!” the dad gathers up some and feeds the kid at the feeder. Spoiled!

An Eastern bluebird couple house hunting in Piedmont North Carolina. They move from nest box to nest box looking for the ideal spot. In this case the first nest box visited is vacant and available. The second nest box is equipped with a color Internet camera. A female Carolina Chickadee is currently building a nest in it. If you look closely at the end of the movie clip you can see the female Chickadee dart into the nest box as soon as the bluebirds leave.
