This video shows five of the most common birds found at a Sutton Massachusetts bird feeder, each showing its own unique characteristics. The titmouse is patient, the chickadee playful, the nuthatch acrobatic, the goldfinch steadfast and the cardinal red and flashy. For more local animal photos and videos visit SuttonMass.org. Sutton is located in south central Massachusetts. Massachusetts is located in the northeastern corner of the United States.
This is video of a cardinal flying into a window. It is either the world’s dumbest bird or has done so much brain damage to itself, it can’t tell that there is glass there. This bird does it numerous times a day almost every day. And not just this window but other windows around the house.
i pour the bird food in the bird house. i use cardinal/blue jay bird food (Black Oil Bird Seed). my damn birdhouse is dominated by these little sparrows. the feed is for blue jays and cardinals.
I grew up in Florida and LOVE it here! Our 2.5-acre yard is FULL of life all year long. I’ve missed filming many visitors to our yard/pond… Just the birds include: Sandhill Cranes, Great Blue Herons, Green/Louisiana Herons, Egrets, Vultures, Kingfishers, Limpkins, Red-Bellied and Pileated (Huge) Woodpeckers, Blue Jays, Titmice, Chickadees, Crows, Mourning Doves, Barred Owls, Grouse, and a Wild Turkey walking down our driveway. We’ve also seen Bats, Otters, Deer, Blue-Tailed Skinks, Salamanders, Dragonflies, Black Racer snakes, Water Moccasins, and 2 Coral Snakes, both of which we were forced to kill (3 cats/3 dogs who don’t know dangerous snakes from harmless ones). Almost forgot the Alligators in the pond (Always Present), plus Bass fish and other smaller fish. We frequently see these turtles on logs in the pond, sunning themselves. To identify Coral Snakes VS King Snakes (look-alikes), we memorized this rhyme: “Black and Yellow kill a fellow; Red and Black won’t hurt Jack.” Very handy! This refers to the stripe pattern on the snakes’ bodies. I don’t know what sort of snake is in our window. Certainly somebody out there will know, and tell us all in the comments, right? Our dog once caught an Otter and flipped it on its back. It hissed at her and she backed off right away! Our other dog once swam in the pond and was chased out by an Alligator. Since then our Radio Fence has barred our dogs from the pond… Essential here in Florida! Edit: Forgot to mention… the video …
Recently, we’ve had a wild male cardinal hopping around our back porch, singing away and trying to find a mate. The cats come around every once and a while, but the cardinal just flutters up to a higher part of the house, where the cats can’t get-to.
We’d like to keep the cardinal around, but not force it too. So, we were thinking of building a bird house just for the bird, and a bird feeder for him.
Anyways, the main question was, what should I use? Is there some kind of ‘do-it-yourself’ box kit bird house and feeder that he’d like? Or would a special design be necessary (completely willing to put one together myself)? We’d like to build the bird house so that, if he finds a mate, he and her can build a nice nest inside. Also, the bird feeder. Any special design? Anything specific he’d like? Also, the wood they’re made of. Is there any kind of wood he’d feel the most comfortable in?
Also, we feel kind of bad for him. He’s singing away for a new mate (we think either his first one died, or he is looking for a first) and so far, he’s the only cardinal we’ve seen around a place. The other birds are a few starlings and some red-chested robins. Do you have any ideas of how to help him so he finds a mate?
This is video of mostly Sparrows feeding at my feeder after I modified it by incorporating A Directv Satellite Dish into it’s design. Anyone out there who may want to make one, might consider A Satellite Dish. It can be mounted to A post or the side of A building or as in my case mounted on A metal rod I drove in the ground. The birds seem to enjoy it, and I get the pleasure of watching them feed.
