I never thought that I would ever see a woodpecker come to my bird feeder .I have seen them in the neighborhood before but was shocked to see him land and feed from the feeder.He or she has been back a couple of times since this video but is very skittish,as soon as he sees any movement in the house or hears a noise inside he takes off.We also have Cardinals,Titmice,Sparrows,Nuthatches,Chickadees,Pine Warblers and Gold Finches as regular guests.Not to mention A couple of Hummingbirds that like to spy on me through the window .

Caught a glimpse of nature today right outside the office window…bird on left acts all tough for the first min and a half not sure what is wrong with his beak(freak beak) – at 1:33, the cardinal enters the scene(musial) – a bit later the musial tries to feed freak beak…weird scene!

How do I discourage Mockingbirds from keeping my other birds away?

I have two Mockingbirds that have decided our house and yard is their own domain. One stands guard at the feeders and the cardinals, finches and other birds aren’t able to come feed. I love the Mockingbirds and their songs but i also love the other birds. Give me an idea.

Winter Birds Feeding

Wendy has set up a couple bird feeders in the backyard. We get a wide variety of finches, nuthatch, cardinals, bluebirds, titmouse, and wrens all the time. This particular day we were graced by the presence of a wooly woodpecker. They don’t usually come out of the forest. A short time after this was taken a Red Shouldered Hawk came flying out of the woods. Luckily he didn’t fly off with any of our other feathered friends.

I have a few bird feeders in my back yard and I love feeding the birds, but I have so many doves. Is there any seed they won’t eat? Also, will red-winged blackbirds eat safflower seed? Another thing, how do I get the blue jays to come to the feeders? I have a wide variety of birds-red-bellied woodpeckers, downys, cardinals, goldfinches, hairys, sparrows, house finches, crackles, rose-breasted grosbeaks, and of course doves, but I can’t get blue jays! Any help would be appreciated.

Bird house for cardinals?

I’m wanting to build a birdhouse specifically for cardinals. Anyone know what kind of house is best for them? Where can I find plans for one? I’ve found a lot of plans online for other birds, but not much for cardinals. Do they not prefer built houses?

In the winter we went to a garage sale where i bought a small, plain little cardinal birdhouse for a quarter. I painted it with small roses and the door hole with a green rim, sealed the outside, and when spring arrived, I hung it in the tree in our backyard. We have a pair of cardinals in our tree, but not the birdhouse, they sit on the feeder and sometimes the little stopper for them to stand on in front of the house, but they never went inside. Just yesterday, I got really frustrated and went out to look at the house because I wanted to know why the beautiful red birds are so repulsed. Inside, i found a wasp nest, and a fat queen laying eggs inside. I have a terrible fear of flying stingers, and taking the birdhouse apart is not an option. How can I take them out, kill them, and keep them out for good without taking the birdhouse apart and repulsing birds?
I’m looking for serious answers.
