Bluebird house being taken over. What should I do?

I have a bluebird house in my back yard that has 6 eggs in it. Just last week I was watching the momma and dad flying in and out of it. On Sunday I noticed other little birds, I think they were finches, flying in and out of it with pine straw. I looked in the house yesterday and noticed the other birds built a nest on top of the blue bird nest with the eggs still in it. I haven’t had time to watch and notice if the parents are still around. What should I do? Move the other nest out into a different house, or do you think it’s too late and the parents have abandoned the eggs?

When can I remove this bird nest?

I live in San Diego. Under one of my eaves at my house there is a bird nest which I think is for a smaller bird like a Sparrow or something similar. It looks like some muddy compound that is tucked in to the corner. There is bird droppings on the floor and I can hear all the little chirping from inside the nest when I stand below.

I want to remove the nest but since It has been there since before I bought the house (10/09) I figure I can give them some more time to finish up this batch of babies and then I will take it out.

Does anyone have any idea what kind of bird makes this nest? If I hear the babies in there now chirping, how long do they typically stay in there before they are out on their own? Will the mother lay more eggs this year or will she let these guys go and then wait until next year for another batch (which means I can take it out as soon as she is done)?

In removing I figure I can scrape it off with a metal putty knife and then get the area wet with a hose a few times until it may be soft and then be able to scrub off the remainder so I am back to having my wood?

Ideas?

You are probably right about the kind of bird.

I am not a bird lover. I will remove the nest and I will prevent them from making another. I will however wait until they have left the nest, then take it down. I think I will get out my long extension ladder this weekend and look inside to see what we have… If they all fly out, then the nest goes as nothing is inside of it at that moment. I will NOT destroy the nest if there are eggs or babies in there that cannot fly. Beyond that, this is my house and they can go make a nest elsewhere.

A bird built a nest in the wreath on my door. What should I do?

I have left this wreath up since Christmas.. it was really starting to turn brown and dry out and I thought yesterday I would take it down. I went to pull it down and I noticed a bird has built a nest inside of it.

I grew up being told not to move nests and I do respect the bird and am glad he/she choose my home. However- the door swings inside and that means the birds will actually be INSIDE my house at times. Also, I have young children and I am concerned about a protective mother bird dive-bombing them!!

So… should I take it down? Should I move it? I can’t see if there are eggs in it yet.

How to find a wild turkey nest?

There is a turkey hen who keeps coming into my yard and eating from the bird feeder. I think she has a nest in the woods behind my house but I’m not sure where. I wanted to know so I could keep my dog away from there, she would kill the turkey and crack the eggs if she found them. She is a beagle and last year she killed and ate some baby bunnies that she found . I was able to save one of them though. I just Don’t want to find any more dead/partially eaten animals. She also killed my duck .

I live in the middle of town, BUT there is some woods behind my house! I have always wanted to see a birds nest with eggs and babies. HOW DO I FIND ONE?
yeah I wasn’t planning on touching them, I just wanted to look.

Well, we’ve been having a female Quaker Parrot and it’s never been with a boy and we already know it’s her time to be laying eggs. A lot of wild Quaker Parrots have been living around our house or in Dallas for a while. One bird has been coming by to be with our bird and we tried catching it twice but it gets away. We now have a peice of cardboard seperating the cage in half and we opened the empty side door and put food inside to see if the boy bird will come in. It has, but we couldn’t close it in because its head was sitcking out. It’s a smart bird and is VERY hard to get close to. Any tips on how to catch the bird? Also, if we go and buy a male bird, do you think the female will like him or will she get mad because she already bonded with the other wild bird? What could be the reaction of the male bird if he saw the other male in the cage with her? HELP!!! I REALLY WANT THE MALE BIRD!

Is a wild bird nest between porch light & house OK?

Some sort of wild bird is building a nest in the small space between the front porch light and the house. I am totally cool with birds & it’s a nice sheltered spot, but I am concerned as this porch light is on from dark til we go to bed and I wonder if this may pose a fire hazard when the nest gets bigger or be too hot for the birds once it gets warmer? It is the front door that is used a lot, so the birds would often be disturbed and the front door will be left open once it warms up more & I replace the storm door w/ the screen door. I don’t know what kind or bird it is, but judging from the size of the material used in the nest, it must be fairly big. I am fine w/ hosting a bird family, but wonder if it may actually not be a good place for them to nest & I should remove the nest as it is not that far along yet? I obviously do not want to disturb it once they have eggs. I live in a more rural area where there are plenty of places to nest. What would be better for the sake of the birds?

Parakeet nesting, Please help!?

Alright, so we just recently adopted two parakeets, a male and a female. They have only been togethor at my house for one day, but at the pet store they were in the same cage. Yesterday, while havign them out, and runing around the floor. They had sex, and if they did it again while the cage was covered is certainly unknown. One of my questions is, should we expect eggs? Then another is what type of material should be used at the bottom of the nesting box? [[ Which we have a nice sized wooden one, that has two opening. Much like the one here ...http://www.windycityparrot.com/Merchant2/graphics/00000001/bird%20house%20-3.jpg..Would wood chips be good to used, or owuld you need more? I have also read about vitemins pp in some form ]] that you put in the female’s food..are they important to get? And would it harm the male if he ate the same food?

For how long can a bird leave its eggs unattended in order for them to hatch?

We recently found out that some bird made a nest right under our porch, and laid 3 to 4 eggs in it (you can see them through the spaces between the planks). But the problem is that very often when somebody is leaving or entering the house the mother bird flies away and comes back in about 5 to 7 minutes. I started worrying if any babies are going to hatch from these eggs at all? On the other hand we cannot stop using the porch and leave and enter the house through the window:-( The bird is some wild forest one with reddish chest of a medium size (slightly bigger than a sparrow). A bird's nest in my kitchen window?

I was washing the dishes last week and I noticed that there was a lot of stuff in the space where our window was open (the window is directly above the sink). I went outside and I saw there was a bird’s nest on the top of the window and some of it had fallen down.
The next morning when I was getting ready to leave the house at 7, I saw a bird with twigs in its mouth on the porch railing. It saw me and flew away. It came back today and I got some pictures:

In the last two the bird has twigs in its mouth but I don’t know if you can see it all the clearly.

So I’m not really sure what to do. If I leave it up I think the mom will get protective or angry because I’m in the kitchen a lot. I’m also concerned that the eggs or the babies when they’re born will fall out of the next since a lot of the next itself has fallen. I don’t want to take it down because the mom obviously worked really hard on it. There’s a tree right by the porch so should I move it there? I don’t know why the bird didn’t just build it there in the first place but I’m worried she won’t be able to find it.
