    Hummingbirds Feeding #2 in HD

Posted by admin Filed Under Bird House Feeder with 11 Comments

I recently purchased a new hummingbird feeder called a HummZinger made by Aspects and filmed this footage over the weekend of 7/25/09. I’m not sure which hummingbird feeder is better from the two that I have now but this new one you can see the hummingbirds better because you don’t have the bottle blocking your view. I also noticed that the female Ruby Throated Hummingbird likes to hover and feed and the male likes to sit on the perch to feed, watch them and see. I also started making my own nector to see if they like it better than the first batch I bought from the store that was red. I have read that the red dye may hurt the birds so I decided to make it myself now. Usually they come one at a time to feed but just today I saw two females feeding and another one flew by and chased one from the feeder. These little guys are a lot of fun to watch and they have led me to purchase Goldfinch and Oriole feeders as well. Watch for some videos of those in the future.

This is my second video of the Baltimore Orioles that feed in my yard. I bought a new feeder that holds an orange and has four ports for jelly along with the 4 sugar water ports. I use grape jelly and they just love it. I can fill the four ports up everyday and they eat it all. I didn’t have much luck with the orange though and don’t put one out there anymore. There is a special guest that appears midway through the video, a Ruby Throated Hummingbird that came to check out the new feeder. They can feed from this feeder also because I use the same sugar water I put in the Hummingbird feeder. This feeder is much nicer than the first I purchased. This one is so easy to clean and fill and has the other options for food. Here is a link to my first Baltimore Oriole video: www.youtube.com The background song is from Kevin MacLeod and called “Rains Will Fall”. Here is his website: www.incompetech.com More info on Baltimore Orioles: The Baltimore Oriole, Icterus galbula, is a small icterid blackbird which is on average 18 cm long and weighs 34 g. This bird received its name from the fact that the male’s colors resemble those on the coat-of-arms of Lord Baltimore. At one time, this species and the Bullock’s Oriole, Icterus bullockii, were considered to be a single species, the Northern Oriole. The Baltimore Orioles, a Major League Baseball team in Baltimore, Maryland, were named after this bird. It is also the state bird of Maryland. Adults have a pointed bill and white bars on the

October 6, 2008: Sometimes it just makes sense to have different places to feed your back yard wildlife. We tried many feeders and poles. Squirrels climbed onto the bird feeders and ate the seed. Deer also ate the birdseed. Finally, a solution: A feeding platform, a bird feeding station, and a squirrel lunchbox. Don’t worry about the deer: they eat the clover and dandelions in the grass. The bluejays also enjoy the platform. And the seed that drops from all of the feeders is picked up by the ground-feeding birds. The squirrels get black-oil sunflower seed, tiny pieces of apple, and nuts. The bird feeders have black-oil sunflower seed, wild bird seed, Nyjer thistle. There is a special treat cake in a metal basket, at the back. I’ll hang a suet cake in December, when the weather turns cold. Right now, I don’t have any hummingbird feeders, but I have plenty of nectar flowers that bloom in the summer and some that bloom in late fall and winter.
