In this video my two Zebra Finches are building a nest inside their basket/nestbox . Its good to use as is, but they like to improve it with dry grass. It can be any grass from the outside. You can just pull it out of the ground and throw it into the cage. There is already one egg laid inside the nest. You can see my parakeet sits on the side of the cage on the left side. For some reason he really likes these birds and wants to spend time with them. I dont let him go inside though.

I took this video today of the bird in question: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TdGvo2047yM
Is it a Finch (and what kind?), baby Blue Jay, House Sparrow, etc.? I’m just dying to know because I think they’re so cool, friendly, very small, fast and cute. I want to look up all the information about them. ‘ ‘ )
Excellent info, Steph! I finally have an answer! I have seen the name of this bird before vaguely while reading about the different kinds of birds. The bird feeder is from my artist brother’s studio from a painting he had made. I added a few metal pieces for hanging and got a great custom, one-of-a-kind feeder for free. I want to make more of them and have a few different kinds of feeders, and tweak the design, like rounded and shorter walls possibly. I just got into birdwatching recently and has been a lot of fun and have had a passion for it. Mostly, I have been feeding a bunch of Blue Jays, so that’s the bird I’m most familiar with and enjoy watching and learning about, and kind of started it all for me. But this new bird species, the Tufted Titmouse, is really something! Thanks again. Happy birding…♥

I’ve always been attracted to aviaries since I was a kid and I’ve finally been able to make one. It makes a great addition to our home as it is very relaxing to just sit from a distance and watch these little birds fly about. Currently, we have societies, orange cheek waxbills, shafttails, and an indian silverbill who all get along fine. I wanted to put a waterfall in there but cleaning it would be a pain since the birds love to bathe in their water. I designed this so I wouldn’t have to disturb the birds too often so I use either aspen, cedar, or pine shavings on the floor. I leave a thick pile of it, rake it every other day and then clean it out completely every few months. The food in the wild bird feeder lasts for weeks so the only chores I have to do are to replace the water and give them their veggies, worms, etc.

Wendy has set up a couple bird feeders in the backyard. We get a wide variety of finches, nuthatch, cardinals, bluebirds, titmouse, and wrens all the time. This particular day we were graced by the presence of a wooly woodpecker. They don’t usually come out of the forest. A short time after this was taken a Red Shouldered Hawk came flying out of the woods. Luckily he didn’t fly off with any of our other feathered friends.
