If I want to install a birdhouse with the hope of a bird living in it, is it too late for this year? (ie, have they already found locations and built their nests?) If it’s too late, when should I have it up by for next year? A bird keeps taking strands from my hanging flower basket, so I guess I figure I’ve already missed out for this year…

Also, if I put out dryer lint or horse hair (my horse is shedding) in my yard for them, would they use stuff like that for a nest?

I’m in southern Ohio, so it would be birds like chickadees, sparrows, etc.

I live out in the country for the most part. We have the perfect environment for birds. We have a woods behind out house, with a large back yard with a few trees there. Some birds even make nests under our deck.

Anyway, I love birds, even sparrows. So will putting up maybe three or four bird feeders around the property help increase their local population?
also, should I put different bird seed in each one to attract the most birds possible?

I have bird seed I bought from the dollar general, it’s just the basic seed with some sunflower seeds in it.

I bought a Thistle Finch Screen bird Feeder about a week ago at petco. It was not a very cheap bird feeder. I also bought thistle seed. When i got home, i cleaned my bird feeder and filled it with thistle seed. I hung the feeder on my house gutter where i can watch them eat. It has been a week and not even one finch touched my feeder! I have another tube feeder filled with a different kind of seed also placed on my gutter and sparrows go crazy for it! Just the other day i had my window open and a finch perched on the window, but then flew away. I know finches are shy birds but the sparrows use my other bird feeder like their is no tomorrow. Please help me. I live in Chicago and right now it is summer and temperatures reach up to 111 degrees. thank you!

I have always loved to have birds in my yard and for years have planted my yard to encourage them to nest and hang out. Mostly hummingbirds, mocking birds, house finches, sparrows and gold finches.

The down side is frequently for some reason or another I find a baby that has been abandoned. My track record for sucessfully raising a baby bird is zero. They all seem to die after a few days under my care.

What do I feed them? How often should I feed them. Also many have little tiny parasites on them. I live in the Anaheim, California area if you know of an organization I can contact for help.

HELP!!!!
Edit:I actually do not have a baby bird at the moment, but since this is that time of year the occasion might arise.

Yes, I know about the Magnolia Bird Farm. I have not been over there for years. Maybe it is time to pay them a visit. thanks.
