Bird House Feeder – Get Hours Of Enjoyment Feeding Birds

Posted by Filed Under Bird House Feeder, Featured with No Comments

There is something so relaxing – so soothing – about watching birds nest, feed and go about their daily lives.  I get hours of pleasure watching the different species of birds make a home in my garden – and you can too.

Not only will you get the enjoyment of watching nature first hand, you will also be doing a great service.  There are birds, in the winter months, that need an extra little bit of food to survive, there are migrating birds in the fall and spring months that need both food and shelter.  And, of course, you can offer shelter during the mating and laying seasons.

There are so many different types of birds that we can attract and watch.  We just need to understand what type of bird house to use and what type of food we will use in the bird house feeder.  As they say – if you build it, they will come.

Do a little reseach as to what types of birds can be found in your local area and then you can decide the types of birds you want to attract.  That will dictate the type of bird house you put in the garden (or window sill or whereever) and what type of feed you will use.

Certain species will only stay in certain types of bird houses and certain species will only eat certin types of food from specific type of bird house feeder.

For example, hummingbirds will be attracted to nectar type foods that you place in a hummingbird feeder but finches will need to be fed seeds from a feeder that is below the bird house perch as they feed upside-down.

Bird houses range in price from a few dollars to hundreds of dollars for hand carved masterpieces.  Feed is very inexpensive.  Both can be found online very easily.

You can start out very simply and cheaply by just getting a simple feeding tray and putting some feed out.  You will soon discoiver what types of birds are in the local area.  Of course, you also find out very quickly if you have squirrels around.  They love bird feed.

There are plenty of solutions to combat squirrel issues so they don’t steal and spoil the bird’s food.

We suggest you use the resources on this site to do a little more research on birds, bird houses, bird house feeders and bird feeding methods.

Just enjoy our little friends and know you are doing a great service to yourself and nature.

Squirrel-proof bird feeder escape

This was bought as a squirrel-proof bird feeder, which I have adapted to hold additional sunflower seeds. Despite bending the bars to reduce the gaps, the younger squirrels have no trouble getting in, although they sometimes struggle to get out.
