Wild Bird Question;Bird Houses!?
August 8, 2010 Bird House Feeder
So,I was wondering:
1.Do wild birds really use bird houses that are on a low branch in a tree?
2.What color do birds like in a red maple tree?
3.Should I put anything in the bird house, like straw or something?

Hummingbirds are fun, entertaining, full of energy and it’s easy to attract hummingbirds.

Don’t place it too low as this can make it accessable to ground predators including domesticated cats. The bird house should be a neutral color as to blend in with the surrounding environment. No, you don’t need to place anything in the bird house..the bird will do it’s own nest building. It is pretty much the end of the breeding season now, so you may not get an occupant until next spring. However, you might get an occassional bird that uses it to roost/sleep in at night.
Yess They use low branches. But It’s usally the small birds that do.
I Would blend the color of the bird house to the tree. It will make the bird feel more safe to build a nest there.
I Wouldn’t put anything directly in the house. You Could lay straw or fluff from inside a pillow around the tree and the bird will probably use it. (Birds are very picky about how there nest is made.)
I Hope I helped.
