Will baby birds get stuck in a bird house?

July 10, 2010 Bird House Feeder

We got a bird house exactly like the one in this picture http://www.pawtographs.com/assets/images/Bird_House_Icon.jpeg

A pair of tiny birds has moved in.
When the babies are born, will they be able to get out when they are ready to fly? There is no swing door on the bird house, only a little hole.
Thanks.

Your question is not stupid. The birds will come out when ready to fledge, that means ready to fly on their own. If you sit nearby, you will hear one or both of the parents coaxing them out. This is usually in about 4-5 weeks after hatching. I watch English sparrows and Eastern Bluebirds all the time.

    yes probably

No, They wont. They stay in their house until they are ready to come out. Then then climb out and their parents give them flying lessons!

No…if the parents can get in, then the fledglings will be able to get out. The baby bird’s feathers may make them look fluffier and larger than the parents but as they get older, they will be about the same size as the parents. The parents will get the babies to hop up to the hole to fly for their first time.
